Jonathan Vacanti has been a professional luthier, building and restoring fine instruments since 1995. Beginning as a restorer for Stamell Stringed Instruments for eight years, he developed a solid foundation in repair and restoration skills.
In 2001, Jonathan completed a two year apprenticeship for restoration with French luthier Philippe Raynaud. Mr. Raynaud was a restorer for Reuning and Son in Boston for over twelve years.
From 2003 until 2006, Jonathan apprenticed with master violin maker Andranik Gaybaryan. Mr. Gaybaryan's instruments are played by high level musicians around the world, including Gil Shaham, Frank Peter Zimmermann, and many members of the Boston Symphony.
In 2011 Jonathan was asked by one of the largest violin shops on the East coast to be head luthier of their workshop, but chose instead to open his own shop in beautiful downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. Jonathan is also the resident luthier for the Heifetz Institute in Staunton, Virginia.
